Hawks vs. Celtics Predictions for Game 2 of the 2023 NBA Playoffs

We saw Game 1 of this series on Saturday and it wasn't particularly close. The Celtics jumped out to a 30-point lead at halftime on the back of a 45-point second quarter. The Hawks battled in the second half winning both the third and fourth quarters but ultimately lost the game 112-99.

Just as we anticipated, the Hawks could not slow down Jayson Tatum or Jaylen Brown, even with a hurt hand. Brown had a team-high 29 points on 12-23 shooting while also grabbing 12 rebounds. Tatum recorded a double-double as well scoring 25 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. With the Celtics wings rebounding the basketball like that they are going to be even tougher to beat as they outrebounded the Hawks 59-45.

The Hawks offense could never really get into a rhythm until the second half. Trae Young really struggled starting the game as he went 0-6 from the field to start. He ultimately finished the game 5-18 from the floor for 16 points and five turnovers. It was a very forgettable game from Young’s standpoint.

His running mate Dejounte Murray also had a rough game going just 10-25 from the field for just 24 points and 0-6 from downtown. Murray is an outstanding defender in his own right as well but struggled to match up with Tatum or Jaylen Brown because of the size difference. This is just a tough matchup for the Hawks in general, and we believe they do not have much of a chance at the TD Garden.

Heading into Game 2, the Hawks didn't bring us much confidence in thinking they can flip this series and win a game on the road. The Celtics were 32-9 at home during the regular season, while the Hawks were just 17-24 on the road this season. The Celtics should take care of business at home in this one.

The Hawks just won’t have an answer for both Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum in this series and the Celtics should handle them pretty easily in Game 2 once again.
